“Knit/Crochet in Church Sunday”
Last September the Prayer Shawl Ministry introduced “Knit/Crochet in Church Day” based on an annual event, “World Wide Knit in Public Day” which was started in 2005 and occurs the second Saturday of June. It is a public event that occurs throughout the world. Since June is a very busy month, the Prayer Shawl group decided to once again bring all knitters and crocheters together to knit/crochet during a Sunday is September. It is an opportunity to bring to light the many benefits of knitting/crocheting and how we, at UMCGF, continue to provide shawls for those who are, or have been through, a difficult time as well as to baptized children. We have also used our talents to work on special projects over the years. Last year, we knit/crocheted hat, scarves and mittens for St. Vincent De Paul (SVDP) in Norwich. Our plan is to continue with this project during the coming year. We hope that knitters/crocheters will join in this project which will begin this fall with the completed items delivered to SVDP by Christmas. The “Knit/Crochet in Church Day” is scheduled for September 28th during our church service. Everyone who enjoys knitting/crocheting is invited to participate.
